Three of Wands

Three of Wands tarot card
1The ships point out of the harbor, not into it. This is a card of departure.
2He thought those three wands were the finish line, and now he has to get on a boat.
3The water is gold: the value is out there rather than back here.
The Ships Are Pointing Out CardEverybody reads this as ships coming in. Look again. They’re leaving.
  • Explore the unknown
  • Doing something you have never done
  • The reward is out there

IN A READING

Go somewhere you have never been. The reward on this one sits specifically on the other side of things you haven’t done before.

deeper meaning

The ships are pointing out of the harbor

I don’t really read the Three of Wands as ships coming in. I understand that’s what it can represent and I know that’s what most people say, but look at where the ships are pointing. They’re pointing out of the harbor. The story I get from this card is a guy who thought those three wands were the goal, got there, and realized he has to get on a boat. So the true meaning of it for me is exploring the unknown, and the reward comes from doing things we’ve never done before. Practically that can be small. Go to the water park in your town you’ve never been to. Take a class. Drive somewhere you don’t know. I know it sounds minor. It counts.

In the good stuff

You’re going somewhere you’ve never been, and the reward is out there waiting.
