Eclipse season is back, and this one is a big deal. We have two eclipses in a single month, and together they crack open one of the most important six month windows of the whole year. If it feels like the ground is shifting under you right now, you are not imagining it.
I want to walk you through what is actually happening in the sky this August, what it means for you, and how to work with it instead of bracing against it. This is not the scary version of astrology. Eclipses do not ruin your life. In my experience they reveal it.
What an eclipse really does
Think of a normal new moon or full moon as a wave. An eclipse is that same wave turned all the way up. A solar eclipse is a supercharged new moon, so it plants seeds and starts new chapters. A lunar eclipse is a supercharged full moon, so it brings things to a head and asks you to let go of what is already finished.
The reason eclipses feel so fated is that they fast forward the story. Something you have been circling for months can click into place, or fall away, in a single week. That is the gift hiding inside the discomfort.
The bigger cycle behind this month
The lunar nodes recently shifted onto the Leo and Aquarius axis, and that sets the theme for roughly the next eighteen months. In plain language, you are being asked to release an old version of who you thought you had to be, and grow toward something more honest and more future facing.
Jupiter is moving through Leo too, and Jupiter expands everything it touches. Add in the fact that Mercury retrograde just ended and its shadow cleared on August 6th, and you get a very specific feeling. The brake is off. The fog is lifting. You can finally see the road again.
The two eclipses
The first is a total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12th, around twenty degrees of the sign. Because it is a new moon eclipse, it is about beginnings, identity, and being seen. This is the one that asks who you are becoming and what you are ready to outgrow. I broke it down in full here: the Leo solar eclipse on August 12th.
The second is a total lunar eclipse in Pisces on August 28th, in the opening degrees of the sign. Full moon eclipses bring things to a peak and then ask you to release, and Pisces rules intuition, dreams, and everything you feel more than you can explain. This one closes the month by asking you to trust what you already know. Here is the deeper look: the Pisces lunar eclipse on August 28th.
How this shows up in the cards
If you read tarot, eclipse energy almost always walks in wearing two cards that sound scarier than they are. The first is The Tower, the sudden shake up that brings you back to reality. The second is the Death card, which is really about transformation, not endings. Right behind them comes The Star, the healing and hope that show up once the dust settles. That is the whole arc of an eclipse in three cards.
How to actually work with it
You do not need to do anything dramatic. A few things I always come back to during eclipse season:
- Do not force big decisions in the first day or two around each eclipse. Let the dust settle, then move.
- Pay attention to what leaves. If a person, a habit, or a situation exits your life this month, it was probably on its way out anyway.
- Watch for repeat signs, strong dreams, and gut feelings. Eclipses turn the volume up on your intuition.
Eclipse season is not something to survive. It is a doorway. Walk through it on purpose.
