- Introspection, solitude, soul-searching
- Inner wisdom earned through a hard season
- Time to come down the mountain and share what you’ve learned
In a reading: it’s time to come down from isolation and share what you’ve learned.
The Hermit is an older gentleman at the top of a mountain who’s been through a dark night of the soul. Everything about him — the gray cloak, the gray beard — represents wisdom, and he’s got his own inner light right there with him.
The real story is that he’s frozen at the top of that mountain, but he could set that lantern down and free himself any time. A lot of people go into hermit mode and don’t want to come back down, because it feels safe up there. But the trick with this card is that he needs to come down and share what he’s learned — shine that inner light. That’s what actually sets him free.
