When the Fool turns up, most people read it as naive, reckless, someone about to walk off a cliff. Look closer and the card is quietly telling you the opposite. You are far more ready for this than you feel.
This is one of the most underestimated cards in the deck, so let me show you what it is actually pointing at.
Those tattered sleeves are not an accident
The tattered sleeves are the imagery most people miss. They represent that the Fool has been on this journey before, going from beginner all the way to the World and accomplishing something, so he is actually able to start again successfully even though he is at the beginning.
The tiny sack means you are already carrying enough
He carries only a tiny little sack on his back, which signals that he is ready for the journey and more capable than he realizes. What looks foolish to the outside world is backed by a lot of knowledge.
The feather in the cap is a wink
The feather in his cap plays on the saying about having a feather in your cap, meaning someone who knows a lot about a subject or knows exactly what they are about to do. Everything about him says he should have more confidence than he does.
If the mountains jump out, you are frozen at the top
The ice cap mountains in the background can, if they jump out at you in a reading, show that he is hesitating and frozen at the top of the mountain, not getting started on the journey he needs to take even though he already knows more than enough.
Trust that you already have what you need and stop hesitating, get started on the new journey even if it looks foolish to everyone else.
What The Fool is really asking
When you pull the Fool, take it as a green light, not a warning. You already have more experience and more knowledge than you are giving yourself credit for. Stop rehearsing the reasons it might go wrong and take the first step of the new journey, even if it looks a little foolish from the outside. That is the whole medicine of it.
