1The empty field behind him: a blank canvas with nothing planted in it yet.
2He’s the only knight in the tarot who isn’t making a move.
3The oak leaves on his helmet stand for knowledge and wisdom. He already has what he needs.
The Blank Canvas CardEmpty field behind him, guaranteed growth, and nothing planted in it yet.
  • Slow, steady progress
  • A blank canvas
  • The first seed in an empty field
In a reading

Progress, but slow. If something feels like it’s barely moving, it probably still is moving. All this card wants is the first mark on the paper.

Deeper meaning

The only knight who isn’t moving

I’ll be honest, this isn’t my favorite card, and it’s the field behind him that does it. The field is empty. Nothing has been planted. He’s the only knight in the tarot who isn’t making a move, and he has everything he needs to make one, right down to the oak leaves on his helmet for knowledge and wisdom. I always say this is my blank canvas card. If he would just plant one seed, or make one mark on that canvas, he’d take off. That’s usually the note for you too. It isn’t a skill problem, it’s a starting problem. And when he turns up in the good stuff I read him straight as progress honestly being made.

In the good stuff

Progress is being made. Slow, and real.
