As we age, we realize that life is just a series of lessons that inspires and encourages our growth as humans. While some lessons are harder learned than others, every one of them is integral to your journey to who you are meant to be. Throughout my life, I’ve learned innumerable life lessons, but here are four of my favorite things I’ve learned as I got older.
Trust Actions, Not Words
When we’re younger, we often trust what people we know tell us. But as we grow older, it becomes clear that not everyone says what they mean, or even backs up their words with actions. In fact, over time, people will show you who they truly are, and tell on themselves just as quickly. You may catch someone in a lie, or find that perhaps they are no longer the person you thought they were.
Always remember to trust someone’s actions over their words, and believe them when they tell on themselves or show their true colors. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to believe the best in people, don’t turn a blind eye and place your trust in those that don’t deserve it.

Embrace Embarrassment
I mean it – don’t be afraid to embarrass yourself! Embarrassment is something we experience when we go against the grain, do something that isn’t “normal”, or act differently from the herd. This is not something to fear! Doing something out of the ordinary is a good thing, and you should work to embarrass yourself daily – eventually, you’ll stop caring what people think. And that? Makes you unstoppable.

Educate Yourself
Self education is the best way to get what you want. No one is going to show up and hand you opportunities or an education, so it’s up to you to teach yourself the things you want to know.
It isn’t always easy and will definitely require discipline, but it will provide an abundance of opportunities you never dreamed you could get. Start small, and learn something to improve yourself every day – this knowledge will grow over time, like a garden, and in a year, you’ll barely recognize yourself and your endless capabilities.

Take Risks
Everything, and I mean everything, is on the other side of something you’ve never done before. Get out there, step outside your comfort zone, and face your fears. This is where real growth happens. If you want something, and it scares you, that simply means it’s worth it.
Growth can be messy, uncomfortable, and scary, but it is always worth it. I encourage you to embrace the life lessons, learn from your mistakes, and work to experience new ones every day. And share the wealth! What’s the best advice you’ve learned with age?
